Vainglory

Vainglory is a video game developed and published by Super Evil Megacorp for iOS and Android devices. The game is a simplified version of the PC-based MOBA genre wherein two opposing teams of three players fight to destroy the enemy base by controlling the path between the bases, which is lined by turrets and guarded by AI controlled enemy creatures. Off the path, players battle for control points that provide resources. The game was released for IOS in November 2014, after being soft-launched for over half a year, with the Android version being released in July 2015.

The game’s development started in 2012 upon the forming of Super Evil Megacorp. The game was unveiled at Apple‘s September 2014 iPhone 6 announcement event to demonstrate the platform’s Metal graphics API. Super Evil Megacorp attempted to make a game that would entertain players for hours and encourage in-person multiplayer experiences similar to that of a LAN party.

Vainglory received generally favorable reviews. Critics praised the game’s graphics, characters, and level design, but criticized its lack of team communication features. Reviewers disagreed on the game’s degree of accessibility to newcomers, part of the reason why it received mixed reviews.

Fifth Major of the season to be hosted by ESL One in Katowice, Poland

Already the home of memorable CS:GO majors, Poland will welcome the Dota 2 fans for the first time at ESL One Katowice.

With the ESL One Hamburg Major about to kick off in two days, the event organizers are ready to announce their second major of the season and the fifth in the Dota Pro Circuit 2017-2018 schedule. ESL One Katowice will take place February 20-25 at the Spodek Arena but the live audience will be granted access only for the tournament playoffs, on the 25th and 26 of February.

ESL One made a few changes for their second Major of the season. The attending teams number has been raised from 8 to16, from which 10 will receive direct invites and 6 will claim their spots at the $1,000,000 and 1,500 DCP points LAN via regional qualifiers. Unlike the upcoming ESL One Hamburg major, the one held in Katowice will feature a best-of-five grand finals. Information on the regional qualifiers, invited teams and prize pool distribution will be revealed at a later date.

In addition to the Dota 2 Major, Katowice will also host the IEM Expo which is taking place in the adjacent International Conference Center of Spodek Arena.

Some of the industry’s top brands, tech companies, and influencers will set up shop on the showfloor with a multitude of stand-alone competitions taking place, as well as showcases with the latest developments the gaming scene has to offer, making it the perfect side-activity between the intense Dota 2 matches.” – extract from ESL One Katowice official announcement

Another welcomed change is the free of charge general admission to both playoffs days of ESL One Katowice major as well as to the IEK Expo. However, those who want to have a unique experience will be able to purchase Priority or Premium access to ESL One Katowice 2018. The tickets sales will go live in November.

Execration claim The Major League Championship Title

Execration claim their first title of the new season at The Major League in Malaysia this weekend.

While most eyes were cast on Europe watching PGL Open Bucharest Minor, quietly in the background eight teams from all over SEA and China – China EHOMEChina Invictus Gaming VitalityPhilippines Clutch GamersIndonesia Evos,Philippines Execration, Malaysia Warriors Gaming UnityMalaysia FnaticMalaysia Team High Ground were battling it out in Iskandar Puteri, Malaysia. With just over $71,000 (RM 300,000 MYR) on the line teams were looking for a championship title and high caliber competition to add to their season’s accomplishments.

After a dismal performance at The International 2017 where they placed 13-16th, Execration have decided to reunite with Kim ‘Gabbi‘ Villafuerte, releasing Fernando ‘Nando‘ Mendoza from the team. With no other roster changes, Execration headed into the new competitive season with confidence.

The Filipino team had a strong showing in the five various Pro Circuit Major/Minor regional qualifiers but consistently fell short – assuming 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place positions. Frustrating, no doubt, the team continued to train and compete at their highest level.

Entering into The Major League, they first bested iG.Vitality, wiped out Team HighGround and then swept through local favorites, Fnatic before taking on the Chinese giants – EHOME.

EHOME were dropped into the lower brackets during the first round by Fnatic. They were forced to survive the brutal best-of-one lower bracket run, knocking out WG.Unity, Team HighGround and Clutch Gamers before exacting their revenge on Fnatic to re-emerge into the upper brackets for the grand finals.

Team Secret and Evil Geniuses receive direct invites to Captains Draft 4.0

SUNSfan and synderN’s creation, Captains Draft reached the fourth edition and with the new season format, the tournament becomes the first ever Valve sponsored event to be played in a different game mode than the traditional Captains Mode.

Started in February 2014 by a small DotaCinema crew, Captains Draft has come a long way. From just an online tournament created with the sole purpose of offering something different to the community, Captains Draft started with $20,000 base prize pool and just six directly invited teams to fight for the supremacy in a game mode where they have a 27 heroes limited pool.

When the first edition of Captains Draft took place, the Alliance vs Na’Vi rivalry was defining the competitive scene, Johan “N0tail” Sundstein and Tal “Fly” Aizik were still called by the community “HoN trash boys” and were part of the famous European Fnatic roster (which actually won the inaugural Captains Draft edition), Kalle “Trixi” Saarinen was the most known Finnish player,  Sébastien “7ckngMad” Debs and his Sigma team were still a thing and Sam “BuLba” Sosale and Team Liquid were inseparable. At its first edition, Captains Draft received a great welcome from the community who doubled the prize pool via ingame tickets purchases.

With every edition, Captains Draft became even more popular, the community got more and more involved in the heroes ban process. Now, with a $300,000 prize pool and 300 qualifier points to offer, Captains Draft 4.0 becomes a minor and will conclude with a LAN event with live audience.

It feels like forever ago when syndereN and I created this tournament. I never dreamed that Captains Draft would ever become a LAN, let alone an official Minor. We are very excited for this opportunity and we hope our viewers will appreciate a little bit of diversity in an otherwise cluttered circuit.” –SUNSfan

Team Secret and Evil Geniuses received the only two direct invites to the event, while six other teams will be joining them via regional qualifiers that will kick off this coming weekend, October 28, with the South American brackets. Four to six teams per regions will fight in a double elimination bracket format, bo3 series and bo5 grand finals with the winner of each region qualifying for the LAN event. The Captains Mode LAN will take place January 4-7 in Washington, at a yet to be announced venue.

Midas Mode

Midas Mode is a new game mode developed by Moonduck. The concept was first announced in February 2017 and the first iteration of the tournament will be held in November 2017. 8 teams from North America and Europe will participate.

Basic rules (according to the original concept[1]):

Midas Mode is a Dota 2 tournament where picking champions costs (fake) money

Midas Mode is finally coming to Dota 2. The novelty Dota 2 tournament, originally scheduled for April this year, will now run from November 18-28.

They might not help in Midas Mode, but here’s our list of the best Dota 2 heroes.

If you don’t know what Midas Mode is, allow us to enlighten you. Developed by Dota 2 talent agency Moonduck, Midas Mode is an unofficial Dota 2 tournament featuring eight teams from Europe and North America. At the beginning of the tournament, each team will be given a number of ‘Moonbucks’, an imaginary currency that will be used for a variety of actions throughout the tournament.

For example, both picks and bans cost Moonbucks, but the amount each team will be charged depends on the relative success and popularity of the heroes they pick, which will change in real time as the tournament progresses. On top of that, everything from picking a side to pausing the game uses up some of a team’s Moonbucks. Running out of money strips teams of any in-game privileges, and forces them to pick from a pool of the very worst heroes in the game.

Teams can, however, earn Moonbucks back in a number of ways. The community will suggest challenges through the tournament’s ‘Bounty’ system that teams can complete to earn extra money. Teams will also be able to bet on other matches in an attempt to win big, and if they find themselves in dire straits they’ll also be able to beg from other teams.

The teams participating in Midas Mode will be EG, Immortals, DC, and OpTic from NA, and Team Liquid, OG, Na’Vi, and Mid or Feed from EU. Moonduck haven’t explained exactly how the tournament will be structured, but we’ll keep this post updated as they do.

Team Liquid, Immortals among the prime cut teams in Midas Mode

Midas Mode by MoonduckTV is bursting with premier teams including TI7 champions, Team Liquid and the Korean overlords, Immortals.

When Midas Mode announced one month ago that OG and Evil Geniuses would be participating in their highly anticipated event, fans were sure the two star teams would be the headliners. With the release of all eight teams to compete, the lineup reveals that the entire list is nothing less than Grade A premier class.

Four teams from North America – Evil Geniuses, ImmortalsDigital Chaos and OpTic Gaming and four teams from Europe – OG, Team LiquidNa’Vi and MidorFeed will come together for the unconventional tournament mode taking place November 18-28th. The event will overlap with the Perfect World Masters Minor, which doesn’t pose a problem as none of these teams are heading out to China.

Still few details have been revealed, but at the time of the original announcement, the idea was to create a new tournament mode with a market system using MoonBucks, distributed to each team to be used to draft, ban heroes or pause the game.

When a team runs out of their money, a ‘hard mode’ will be enabled – allowing only the ‘worst heroes’ to be selected and no bans or pauses will be permitted.

A Bounty System will be put into place for teams to earn money back through community challenges – such as playing a game with Techies, killing Roshan but leaving the Aegis, and selecting only flying heroes.

The price is expected to fluctuate from game to game creating a market system based on supply and demand as well as finding a balanced economy.

Team Kinguin claimed the European spot for the Perfect World Masters, completing the list of teams to compete in the Chinese Minor next month.

With a 2:1 victory over HellRaisers last night, the full Polish squad punched their ticket to the team’s first appearance in a Valve sponsored event. The lineup had been on the rise since last year as Team Singularity, grinding their way through the European scene and making waves for several months. This season, the team hit hard and fast, showing up as a real contender in each of the ProCircuit qualifiers and creating a stir.

Only one day prior, Vega Squadron had also clinched their spot in the Perfect World Masters after defeating Team Empire 2:1 – also the team’s first appearance at a Valve sponsored event.

The two organization’s historic wins sealed the up the ten teams that will be competing for a slice of the $300,000 prize pool and 300 qualifying points November 19-26 in Shanghai, China. Format and other details will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.

Team SecretNewbee and LGD Forever Young have all received direct invites to participate – Perfect World Masters being the first of the ProCircuit events to extend an invitation to more than two teams.  The rest of the lineup includes one qualified team for EU (Team Kinguin), NA (compLexity Gaming), SA (SG e-sports), SEA (Mineski) and CIS (Vega Squadron) with two qualified teams (LGD Gaming and ViCi Gaming) coming in from China.

Virtus Pro, OpTic Gaming, TNC and iG.V will battle it out in the Manila Invitational

The All Star Weekend in Manila from 13-15th October will also feature prominent Dota personalities of the likes of Chuan, SirActionSlacks, Merlini, and TobiWan.

Hosted at the Mall of Asia Arena in the heart of Manila, the second weekend of October will be quite a treat for the ever-enthusiastic Pinoy Dota 2 community, thanks to the All Star Weekend in Manila. Featuring famous Dota personalities from all over the world, including (but not limited to) Chuan, TobiWan, SirActionSlacks, Merlini and PindaPanda, the event is definitely not your orthodox esports event!

Owing to the recent changes to the Dota Pro Circuit, the weekend is expected to divert attention from the SL i-League Invitational Minor, being held from 12-15th October. However, the four teams participating at the Invitational – Virtus ProOpTic GamingTNC, and iG.Vitality – have all established their dominance in their respective regions and would not be going down without a tough fight. Following a different pattern from traditional Dota tournaments, the event not only features a tournament between some of the strongest representatives of each region but also features a Manila Challenge between 4 Filipino teams as well as a 1v1 Challenge, a trend that has vanished with time from most major tournaments. Furthermore, the tournament even includes a “Word Up” rap battle between the enthusiastic attendees as well as the filming of a documentary – “Underdogs Rising”.

With more surprises to come as the remaining personalities get announced, the All Star weekend in Manila is definitely not an event you should pass, as a Filipino fan! Get your tickets from SMTickets, with the prices at PHP 4,240 for All-Star VIP, PHP 2,650 for All-Star Lower Box and PHP 530 for general admission.
